I’m Taylor Locker, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist based in Greater Lafayette, Indiana. Providing quality, evidence based therapy and psychological services is my passion. I truly believe growth, healing, and change are all possible through collaborative therapy. I look forward to the opportunity to build that together with you.
I was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana and had the opportunity to attend Purdue University for my undergraduate degree in Psychology. I then went to Gainesville, Florida where I studied Counseling Psychology at the University of Florida's American Psychological Association Accredited program. I went on to earn my Masters of Science (2009) and Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology (2013). I completed my practicum training at the University of Florida Counseling and Wellness Center and the Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Southern Illinois University Carbondale Counseling and Psychological Services where was I able to serve as member of their Dialectic Behavioral Therapy Treatment Team and Eating Disorder Outpatient Program in 2013.
The foundation of my training has been in the "generalist" practice of counseling psychology which is rooted in healthy and adaptive functioning, the importance of relationships, families, and social/cultural influences on our lives, and positive psychology which helps us draw on people's developed and innate strengths. In addition to that foundation, I have training and expertise in working with a wide range of mental health concerns such as depression/mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and stress disorders, and eating disorders. I have received specialized training in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Mindful Based Stress Reduction, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Trauma-Informed Care, and Integrative Eating Disorder Treatment.
Prior to returning to the Lafayette area in the summer of 2017, I was a Staff Psychologist and Coordinator of the Eating Disorder Services Program at Iowa State University Student Counseling Service for four years. In this position, I had a variety of responsibilities including being a member of the Clinical Committee and Training Committee. I had the pleasure of working with ISU students as therapy clients. I was also a supervisor in their American Psychological Association accredited doctoral program and internship. I was the founding member of the ISU Eating Disorder Treatment Team in which I worked closely with other health professionals to provide integrated treatment for students with eating concerns. I provided consultation and outreach about body image and eating concerns as well as a wide range of mental health issues to the ISU campus and community.
I strive to help improve the well-being of individuals in my hometown. I offer a range of psychological services through my practice and hope to build collaborative relationships with community partners here. I seek to use my experiences and expertise to help train a new generation of highly effective clinicians.
In my practice, I offer individual therapy for adults, group therapy (past groups include DBT skills, positive body image development, young women's identity development), consultation (current provide Balint Group to IU Family Medicine Residency Program), training and supervision (invited presenter at UCCs, mental health advocacy groups, and clinical supervision to doctoral students and post-doctoral residents).
